Senatorial candidates Rey Langit, Neri Colmenares lay out platforms in Comelec's first e-rally set

Familiar faces came out in a new platform offered by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) called "e-rally" in its first set on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

Under Resolution No. 10730 or the Rules and Regulations Implementing Republic Act 9006 or the “Fair Elections Act”, through the Education and Information Department (EID), shall provide a platform for free live-streaming of e-rallies of national candidates.
The said e-rally livestreams will be posted on the Comelec’s official social media pages. Some of the candidates include broadcaster Rey Langit and former Bayan Muna Congressman Neri Colmenares.
Langit laid out some of the possible legislative reforms that he will pursue should he be elected as senator. Some of which include strengthening of treaties with other countries to protect the welfare Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). He said that this will help them achieve a better and accurate pay, for an improved state of living.
He also added that he will look into the condition of the country's farmers especially the plunge of the price of rice by revisiting the Rice Tariffication Law.
Langit mentioned that he will focus as well on sustainable development by strengthening cooperatives, increasing foreign investors, ownership in select sectors, telecommunications, transportation services and a lot more which, according to him, will attract more foreign direct investment.
On the other hand, some of the platforms of lawyer Colmenares include free and adequate treatment for all in public hospitals and health facilities through the Free Healthcare Act. Part of this as well is a better pandemic response with free testing, quarantine treatment, and vaccination as well as P10,000 cash aid for those who lost their jobs and a P15,000 subsidy for farmers. He would also support community pantries and other forms of assistance.
In terms of livelihood, he will push for the national living wage; end of contractualization; strengthening of local industries for more jobs; true land reform and support to farmers for adequate and low-priced food; free or affordable housing; and people's green new deal.
For peace and justice he will be batting for the end of extrajudicial killings and other human rights abuses; investigation of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC); ABS-CBN's franchise renewal; passing of the SOGIE Bill and the Human Rights Defenders Bill; and the revisiting of the GRP-NDFP Peace Talks.
E-rally airtime shall be allotted to each Presidential, Vice-Presidential, and Senatorial candidate, as well as to each Party-List Organization.
Comelec said that livestreaming of e-rallies shall be conducted every night, beginning February 8, 2022, on its official social media channels.
