Robredo urges CamNorte voters: 'Wag mapabudol'

DAET, Camarines Norte — Comparing the campaign season to a romantic courtship, presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday, Feb. 9, asked the ladies here to get to know their suitors first and not to listen to their empty promises.

Vice President Leni Robredo (VP Leni Media Bureau)

Robredo likened it to choosing a candidate to vote for the elections.

“Tingnan po natin ‘yung track record. Dahil napakadaling mangako di ba? Sino dito ‘yung mga nanliligaw na mahilig mangako (Let’s look at the track record. Because it is very easy to make promises, right? Who here are the suitors who love to make promises)?” she asked the crowd.

“Ayun, ‘yung mga dalaga po dito, pag may mga manliligaw kayo na nangangako ng nangangako, huwag kaagad magpapabudol. Titingnan po natin papaano kaya nito papanindigan ‘yung kanyang mga ipinapangako (To the ladies here, if you have suitors who love to make promises, don’t get conned easily. Let us look at how they will back up their promises),” Robredo added.

The Vice President is on the second day of going around Bicol, her home region, to campaign for a “solid Bicol” vote in the May 2022 elections, where she is the lone female presidential bet.

Aside from checking the candidates’ track records, she advised voters to look at their characters.

“Dahil po pag eleksyon lahat mahal ‘yung mahihirap pero pag nakaupo na, nakalimutan na ‘yung mahihirap (Because during elections, everyone loves the poor but when they assume post, they forget about the poor),” she stressed.

The presidential candidate touted her accomplishments in the Office of the Vice President (OVP) despite its meager budget.

She said she was able to do most of her projects because of the trust of private donors “dahil alam nila na mapapapunta sa tama ’yung kanilang tulong (because they know that their help is being used well).”

As she asked her fellow Bicolanos to vote possibly the first Bicolana to Malacañang, she promised that the whole region will benefit from her win.

“‘Yung pinakauna, pagkakataon po ito sa Bicol Region na magkaroon ng pangulo na Bicolana. Alam po natin na pag tayo ay binigyan ng pagkakataon, malaki ‘yung pakinabang ng buong Bicol lalong lalo na ang Camarines Norte (First, this is a chance for the Bicol region to have a Bicolana president. We know that if we are given a chance, the whole Bicol will benefit, especially Camarines Norte),” Robredo said.

In 2016, despite having four other Bicolano vice presidential candidates, she won by a landslide here with 132,757 votes.
