OCTA observes COVID-19 downtrend in 8 Luzon cities

Eight highly urbanized cities in Luzon are seeing a downtrend in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, the OCTA Research Group said on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

"Downward trends observed in Angeles, Baguio City, Dagupan, Lucena, Naga City, Olongapo, Puerto Princesa, and Santiago," OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said in an update via Twitter.

He noted that Puerto Princesa City and Baguio City were classified as "high risk" while Angeles, Dagupan, Lucena, Naga, Olongapo, and Santiago remained at "moderate risk."

While COVID trends have improved in the eight cities, David still advised the public to continue to observe health protocols to prevent a reversal of the trend.

Moreover, OCTA observed a continuous downtrend in COVID cases in Metro Manila.

Metro Manila on Tuesday, Feb. 8, recorded 689 new COVID cases.

"This is a bit higher than our expected 500 to 600 (cases on Tuesday). This is also 19 percent of the national total," David said.

However, he noted that "this is still tracking below our January 20 projections."
