DOH reports 3,651 new COVID-19 cases; active cases dip below 100k

The Department of Health logged 3,651 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Wednesday, Feb. 9.

Active cases stood at 96,326, less than the 100,000 regularly reported in the past weeks since the surge began.

DOH said that of the 3,651 reported cases, 3,474 (95 percent) occurred within the recent 14 days from Jan. 27 to Feb. 9, 2022. The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were Region 6 (523 or 15 percent), NCR (484 or 14 percent) and Region 4-A (414 or 12 percent).

All labs were operational on Feb. 7, 2022. However, three labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS), DOH added.

Wednesday's update brings the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 3,623,176. Of this, 2.7 percent are active cases.

Among the active cases 95 percent are mild and asymptomatic, according to DOH. Its data showed that 87,385 are mild; 4,150 are asymptomatic; 3,029 are moderate; 1,447 are severe and 315 are in critical condition.

DOH also reported 12,834 new recoveries bringing the total number to 3,472,160 or 95.8 percent of the total number of cases while 69 more have died from COVID-19 bringing the death toll to 54,690 or 1.51 percent of the total number of cases.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the country is one step closer to bringing kids back to regular schooling, playtime, and family gatherings thanks to COVID-19 vaccines.

On Monday, over 9,000 children aged 5 to 11 were safely vaccinated.
