The Philippine Football Federation is looking to revive its women’s league that has not been on pause for the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
General secretary Ed Gastanes said the federation is finalizing arrangement for the return of the PFF Women’s League, especially with the momentum of the Philippines’ historic run in the recent AFC Women’s Asian Cup in India.
“The last two years di tayo makalaro because of the pandemic, but now we’re finalizing regulations and we’re gonna announce the resumption of the Women’s League,” Gastanes said.
Gastanes added that the reduction of COVID restrictions to Alert Level 2 in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces is also a chance for the PFF to bring back the league which had staged three seasons since its inception in 2017.
Its amateur status had made it tough for the league to be held due to regulations implemented by the Joint Administrative Order composed of the Games and Amusements Board, Philippine Sports Commission and Department of Health.
The last edition was ended in Feb. 2020 when La Salle captured its third consecutive championship under a double-round league format.
La Salle was one of 10 clubs which competed in the third season, along with fellow UAAP teams Far Eastern University, University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines.
Among participants were Stallion-Hiraya, Tuloy FC, Green Archers United, Nomads, Tigers Football Club and Maroons FC.
