Mavy Legaspi admits losing confidence as tennis player due to 'under the table' accusations
Being a celebrity is no joke as it comes with huge baggage.
21-year-old young actor Mavy Legaspi attests to this.
In Kyline Alcantara's recent vlog, Mavy revealed having "zero confidence" growing up.
"Kasi as a kid, my passion talaga was tennis," he shared. "So I was competing in high level of tennis but, of course, there's always that saying na nangdadaya ako because of my background; showbiz family. So they always think when I win it's always under the table. Stuff like that."

Because of that, Mavy would always want to lose when he reach a certain round in the tournament.
"I'd lose, like, on my own," he related. "Because I didn't have the confidence to, like, win it."
He was able to overcome it though, building confidence in what he described as a "weird sense."
"It was by losing until I had enough," was how he put it. "And I said, 'Okay, I need to accept myself. I need to accept who I am. What my background is.' Wala namang mali, it's just how I was brought up. I was born into this."
When asked how important it is for him to get his parent's approval, he said, "It's weird for me because it's like a one-way train. It's just on my dad."
"Like what I mentioned earlier, I grew up competing in tennis and he was my coach so we've always had disagreements. It was almost like that. My childhood growing up was always disagreements with my dad. I was always looking for approval but I never got that. Until I reached my pre-teen age, so 13-14, that's when I said this is tough love. He loves me."
He revealed having a conversation with Zoren about it.
"It was a very weird time when I hit 13 and 14, I officially quit playing tennis. I was at the point where I was already competing in other countries for the Philippine team and all that but I felt like it was time for another chapter in my life. Na, I accepted na this is tough love I needed and this is the tough love I'm accepting from him and this is how he loves me."
Mavy also shared his favorite mantra or motto in his life whenever he feels like quitting.
He said that ever since he was a kid, Carmina would always say this line to him: "You can't please everyone."
"I'm not bragging or anything but, of course, it was difficult for me socializing and growing up even though I was an extrovert... They always look at my last name before my personality above anything. So I just had to live with that na you can't please everyone," he related.
"If this is the right set of people for you, then it's the right people for you. But if these people really can't connect with you, then it's just not meant to be, you can't please them," he added.
Mavy recalled his time in limbo too when an online user asked: "Academic achiever ako pero hindi ko makitaan sarili ko ng isang bagay na nag eexcel ako. What to do?"
He said: "I guess I went through a phase like that also in high school. I was already doing, like, commercials with the family, of course. But when it comes to school lagi akong nag ta-top honors and all that. And my strongest point was Math so all I think about being architect, engineer. It's always on my mind and then there, I found my love for acting na. And just eventually... It will come. You just pray for it. I really went through a tough time na I really was praying na what's that passionate will help me live on in this life."
In 2019, Mavy was emotional sharing a picture of him at Wimbledon Center Court in London.
"Oh, Wimbledon. 5 years ago, I quit playing tennis which was the sport I truly put my heart and soul to. I missed classes, missed work, missed birthday parties and gatherings. winning Wimbledon was always the dream I had growing up but sometimes maybe it’s just not meant to be you know? Couldn’t help but stop and stare and just imagine what could’ve happened... I’m happy with the career path I have now but Tennis will forever be number 1 in my heart," he wrote. "Don’t ever give up on your dreams and keep working hard. live life freely and happily."
