Gov't targets 6M individuals for 3rd phase of national vaccination days

The government aims to inoculate at least six million individuals against the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) as the administration continues to ramp up its vaccination campaign with the scheduled National Vaccination days on Feb. 10 and 11.

In a briefing with the President on Monday night Feb. 7, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said the goal is to inoculate two million people with the primary dose and immunize four million individuals with the booster shot.

To vaccinate more individuals, Año noted that walk-ins are allowed as long as they are Filipinos willing to be injected in any vaccination site. He said there is no need for them to register for the procedure.

“Pumunta ka lamang sa pinakamalapit na vaccination site at ikaw ay babakunahan o bibigyan ng booster (shot). At nakahanda rin po ang ating mga unipormadong hanay upang tulungan ang ating LGUs (local government units) na dalhin ang mga bakuna sa malalayong lugar o hakutin ang ating mga kababayan at dalhin sa vaccination sites (Just proceed to the nearest vaccination site and you will be inoculated or be given the booster. And our uniformed personnel are ready to assist the LGUs in delivering the vaccines in far-flung areas or ferry our countrymen and take them to the vaccination sites),’’ Año said.

For her part, the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) said it has coordinated with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) to administer the COVID-19 vaccines.

“Yung hinahanda natin ngayon ay all the sectors may nakikita tayo especially sa economic sector, companies marami pa ring hindi nagkakaroon ng booster doses or di pa mataas yung coverage sa kanilang mga employees (We are currently readying all the sectors especially the economic sector. A lot of employees are due for booster shots),” said Dr. Kezia Lorraine Rosario, from the NVOC.

Rosario said they are also coordinating with schools, eco-zones, and universities to vaccinate more individuals against the infectious disease.

“We are also exploring yung paraan ng pagbibigay ng bakuna (We are also exploring ways to vaccinate more people) We are expanding as much as we can,” she said.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), 128,516,818 vaccine doses were administered nationwide as of Feb. 4.

Año said they have already issued an advisory and memorandum circular to prepare the LGUS for the third phase of the National Vaccination Day.

On Feb. 2, Año told the President that the governors, mayors and officials of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Department of Health (DOH) had a meeting to discuss relevant issues leading to the National Vaccination Day.
