REFLECTIONS TODAY

Whenever Jesus enters villages, cities, or countryside, people run to and fro to meet him. In some instances, Jesus perhaps simply wants to pass by a place with no intention to preach, in a hurry to reach a place where he and his disciples may have peace and tranquility. But his fame as a teacher and healer has preceded him, and so people flock to him. He does not turn away these people who wait and hope and he performs miracles for them. He is not seeking popularity, and often he tells those who are healed not to tell anyone about his healing. Rather, he preaches the Kingdom of God that ushers the salvation of people—both in body and spirit.
Gospel • Mk 6:53-56
After making the crossing to the other side of the sea, Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret and tied up there. As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him. They scurried about the surrounding country and began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.
