'The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure' film sells 1 million tickets, sets record

“The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure,” starring Kang Ha-neul and Han Hyo-joo, set a record by becoming the first movie to sell one million tickets among all films released in South Korea this year.

The adventure movie also stars Lee Kwang-soo, Kwon Sang-woo, EXO’s Sehun, Chae Soo-bin,, Kim Sung-oh, Park Ji-hwan and Park Hoon.

“The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure" is the first film released this year to sell one million tickets in South Korea (Lotte Entertainment, KOFIC)

According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), “The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure” reached the one million mark on Feb. 5 when it sold 1,024,126 tickets in South Korea.

This made “The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure” the first film in South Korea to reach one million in total admissions in 2022 among movies released this year. It is also the first Korean film to hit the one-million mark this year.

The film was released in South Korea on Jan. 26 and has topped the box office for 12 consecutive days.

As of Feb. 6, “The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure” has grossed $8.28 million at the Korean box office with a revenue share of 41.65 percent for the day.

In the weekend box office in South Korea from Feb. 4 to 6, “The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure” emerged as No. 1, selling 164,820 tickets and earning $1.34 million.

Here are the 10 top-grossing films in South Korea in the weekend box office from Feb. 4 to 6:
