The total active COVID-19 cases in the city of San Juan declined after tallying less than 100 active cases from more than 1,900 cases last month.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora announced that as of Saturday, Feb. 5, the city has recorded 76 active COVID-19 cases, or a 96 percent drop from the 1,947 cases it logged last Jan. 12. San Juan also logged 20,368 recoveries and 354 deaths as of Feb. 5.
"With the continuous vaccination program for unvaccinated individuals, the city has been seeing a consistent drop in new and active cases," Zamora said.
Zamora urged the public to get inoculated and boosted against COVID-19 especially amid the threat of the Omicron and Delta variants.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, Zamora said that the decline in active COVID-19 cases in the city can be sustained because of San Juan’s aggressive COVID-19 response and the cooperation of its residents.
He lauded San Juaneños’ strict observance of the minimum public health and safety protocols and their support to the local government unit’s (LGU's) COVID-19 vaccination program.
The mayor added that due to the high rate of vaccination in the city, San Juan's medical facilities and quarantine centers are observing a low percentage of COVID-19 admissions.
Zamora said the vaccines have also played an integral part in minimizing the number of severe and critical COVID-19 cases among his constituents.
