The city of Makati has started the vaccination of the 5-11 years-old age group against COVID-19 on Monday, Feb 7.
According to the local government unit (LGU), a total of 900 children are targeted to be vaccinated daily at Nemesio I. Yabut Elementary School (NIYES) (500 kids), and SM Makati (400 kids), the city's primary vaccination sites for the age group.
To increase the number of children vaccinees and ease their anxiety about vaccination, chocolate candies were distributed to them after their vaccination.
The LGU said that Makati has procured 10,000 pieces of the sweet treat meant to show its appreciation to them for getting jabbed.
“The sweet treat is meant to reward them and, at the same time, make them happy,” Makati City Mayor Abby Binay said.
Binay urged the parents of the children in the 5-11 age group to have them vaccinated against COVID-19.
“They are among the vulnerable sectors that can suffer serious complications if they get infected,” Binay said.
Parents can register their children online at covid19vaccine.safemakati.com and wait for notification on their schedule before going to the vaccination site. This is to avoid unnecessary travel for their child.
Binay reminded the public that the “no walk-in” policy will be strictly implemented
She also encouraged everyone to take their booster shots for the COVID-19 vaccine to ensure optimal protection against the new variants of the virus.
“The city has opened the booster registration for everyone who wishes to get vaccinated in the city. All they have to do is register in our portal then go to the nearest vaccination site,” Binay said.
The COVID-19 vaccination of the 5-11 years-old age group was previously slated on Feb. 4. However, due to logistical issues on the delivery of the low-dose formula Pfizer vaccines, the vaccination of the age group was rescheduled to Monday, Feb. 7.
