The Taguig City government reported that its weekly new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases increased amid the transmission of the Omicron variant in the National Capital Region (NCR).
In its latest report, the city government recorded 3,113 new COVID-19 cases for Jan. 28 to Feb. 3, or an average of 445 cases per day, up by 451 cases or 17 percent compared to 2,662 new cases tallied from Jan. 21 to 27.

Taguig had 319 new weekly cases from Dec. 31 to Jan. 6. The weekly tally increased to 1,389 weekly new cases from Jan. 7 to 13 and 1,918 from Jan. 14 to 20.
As of Feb. 5, Taguig has 336 active COVID-19 cases including 314 new cases out of 62,498 confirmed cases, 61,710 recoveries and 452 deaths.
The Taguig Safe City Task Force also reported that for the week, 1,358 individuals were apprehended for various safety protocol violations.
The top five most common violations committed were not observing social distancing protocols, not wearing face masks, no vaccination card, loitering in violation of quarantine rules and prohibited leisure activities.
It noted that of the 1,348 who were apprehended, 73 percent or 984 were apprehended at public transportation terminals; 15 percent or 202 were apprehended while walking on streets; and 12 percent or 162 were in private vehicles.
Mayor Lino Cayetano underscored the importance of vaccination in preventing hospitalization of COVID-19 patients despite a surge in cases.
The Taguig City government will start the vaccination of minors aged 5 to 11 on Feb. 7 at the SM Aura SMX Convention Center and Lakeshore Vaccine Information and Training Center.
As of Jan. 28, a total of 9,519 kids aged 5 to 11 have registered for vaccination in Taguig.
