Robredo to campaign in remote areas; will shun big rallies

The team of presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo prefers to go around the provinces instead of holding the “conventional” political rallies once the official campaign period kicks off on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

Speaking during her Sunday radio show, Robredo noted the “inconvenience” to the people from many areas of the country attending big campaign rallies in this time of pandemic.

“Hindi na ito pareho ng dati na may malalaking rallies. Pinakasadya naman nito marating namin (This is not the same lile before when there were big rallies. Our objective here is to reach) as many places as possible,” she said.

The tandem of Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan, who is gunning for the vice presidency, as well as their senatorial slate will hold their proclamation rally in Camarines Sur on Tuesday.

Camarines Sur is the home province and bailwick of the Vice President.

On the second day of the campaign period, the opposition slate is scheduled to go to Camarines Norte, Sorsogon, and Albay in Bicol.

The Robredo camp is expecting that the entire campaign for the May 2022 polls would be a challenge due to uncertainties brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aspiring president said that the number of voters in a locality does not affect her decision to visit these areas because these are the ones that need “access” to national government officials the most.

“Kaya ako hindi ko talaga tinitingnan sa numero ng taong boboto pero sa pangangailangan kasi (That’s why I don’t really look at the number of voters but in the need because) the more na baba ka sa mga lugar sa mas kailangan lalo naman silang nabibigyan ng atensyon (you go to the places with more needs, you give them the attention),” she explained over dzXL.

Robredo was in Dinagat Islands on Saturday, Feb. 5, which she said does not have a large number of voters. This marked the third time that she visited the island after Typhoon “Odette” hit in December.

The latest statistics as of 2019 showed that Dinagat has 8,080 registered voters.

She made the most out of her time, though, adding that she also went to Siplaya City and Cauayan, both in Negros Occidental, and Albay, Bicol on the same day.

“Masipag ako umikot eh. Kaya ko ng ilang lugar sa isang araw (I am very diligent in going around. I can do more in a day),” Robredo shared.

Prior to this, lady official also went to Siargao and Dinagat Islands to turn over construction materials for Angat Buhay’s housing project for Odette victims.
