OCTA sees PH daily COVID cases going down to 1,000-2,000 by end-February

As coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases continue to drop across the country, the OCTA Research Group estimated that the Philippines may only have 1,000 to 2,000 daily cases by the end of February.
In a tweet on Sunday, Feb. 6, OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David noted that the number of new COVID-19 cases around the country continues to decrease as manifested by the daily average of 8,422 cases during the Feb. 1 to 5 monitoring period.
David said this is down from the 17,025 cases monitored from Jan. 25 to 31.
"From Jan. 18 to 24, the seven-day average was 28,666 and from Jan. 11-17, it was 34,958," he further noted.
Moreover, David said the country's COVID reproduction number or infection rate has decreased to 0.55 as of Feb. 2, from 0.93 as of Jan. 26.
The seven-day positivity rate in the entire country has also decreased from 34 percent to 24 percent, while hospital bed occupancy has dropped from 49 percent to 40 percent.
"The current trends project to a decrease to 4,000 to 5,000 cases per day by Valentine's Day and 1,000 to 2,000 by end of February. Nevertheless, the public is advised to continue observing minimum public health standards," David said.
