Medina new QCPD chief

Police Brig. Gen. Remus Balingasa Medina officially assumed post as the new Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The ceremony was held at the QCPD Grandstand, Camp PMGen Tomas B. Karingal, Sikatuna Village in Quezon City.

“On this new and greater responsibility bestowed on me, I believe that continuity is a very important factor to sustain and maintain the momentum of our gains whether in the administrative or operational aspect of governance. I have therefore nothing else to commit but to continue the plans and programs of my predecessor and to help fulfil and achieve the genuine change for our constituents- especially the people of Quezon City.” Medina said in his assumption speech.

"In like manner, along with our fight against illegal drugs and criminality, I will also continue to emphasize on reward and punishment system for our personnel and focus on imposing the kind of discipline that the public should want of their police by adopting internal and practical reforms for erring cops,” the new QCPD director added.

Medina, who is from the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Tagapaglunsad Class of 1993, was the former chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG).

He replaced Police Brig. Gen. Antonio Yarra of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Sambisig Class of 1991, who is now assigned as new Police Regional Office (PRO) Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) director.

Medina was also assigned to different commands prior to his current post including as the Philippine National Police (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group director; Senior Executive Assistant of the Office of the Chief, PNP; Chief District Directorial Staff of the Eastern Police District, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO); and Chief of the Regional Intelligence Division of NCRPO, PRO 2 and 7.

Police Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., NCRPO regional director, attended the turnover ceremony as the presiding officer, along with Assistant City Administrator for Operations Alberto H. Kimpo, who represented QC Mayor Joy Belmonte as the guest of honor and speaker.
