The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Feb. 6, said there is a slim chance that a tropical cyclone or low pressure area (LPA) will develop inside the country's area of responsibility this week.
"The formation of a low pressure area or tropical cyclone is less likely this week," PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said.
Instead, Estareja said, the northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," will be the dominant weather system that will particularly affect Luzon.
Cloudy skies with light monsoon rains may prevail over Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon.
Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Central Luzon will also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the amihan.
Meanwhile, the easterlies or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country.
PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods or landslides.
