The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will take down illegal campaign materials in view of the start of the campaign period for national candidates this week.

Comelec Tandag announced that the province-wide clearing operations of all unlawful election materials of national candidates and party list will start on Feb. 9.
"Please take note that election materials posted on common poster areas but do not comply with the mandatory clauses 'political advertisement paid for' and 'political advertisement paid by,' each clause followed by the name and address of the candidate and the donor respectively, shall also be removed. Proper sizes should also be observed; otherwise it shall also be torn down and removed," Comelec Tandag said in a Facebook post.
It then posted a list of the designated common poster area for Tandag City.
On Thursday, Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said they are already preparing to conduct operations to take down illegal campaign materials.
"The Comelec will have a take down operation for illegally posted campaign materials," he said.
"We will inform them ahead of time that they will have to take down all of these previously posted materials that are in violation of our rules," added Jimenez.
The rules on campaigning is already set to take effect on Feb. 8 when the campaign period for national candidates starts.
