Brawner names new Army command sergeant major

The Philippine Army (PA) announced Sunday, Feb. 6, that it has installed its newest Command Sergeant Major.

Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., PA Commanding General, officiated the assumption of Chief Master Sergeant (CMS) Rogelio P. Caacbay as the 19th Army Command Sergeant Major in a ceremony held last Friday, Feb. 4, at the Army Headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

The Sergeant Major is the personal staff of the Army Commanding General mandated to professionalize the Enlisted Personnel Corps while addressing the morale, welfare, and discipline of the troops.

In his assumption speech, the new Sergeant Major challenged the Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) Corps, dubbed as the “Philippine Army’s backbone,” to be the best coaches and mentors to their subordinate personnel.

“Rest assured that I shall lift up the Office of the Army Sergeant Major motto of discipline, morale, and welfare to fully assist and support the Philippine Army guided by the command guidance and strategic vision of our Commanding General,” Caacbay said.

Caacbay served as the acting PA sergeant major and concurrent Office of the Army Sergeant Major’s (OASM) transition adviser from April 2021 to February 2022.

Meanwhile, Brawner vowed to pursue the professionalization of the Army’s NCO Corps by appointing the right officers in the right positions.

“With a professional NCO Corps, we will be able to achieve our vision of truly becoming a world-class Army by 2028,” the CGPA said.
