Academicians, civil society leaders launch voters' ed coalition

Academicians from various Philippine universities and colleges partnered with civil society organization leaders to launch the Academe and Civil Society Coalition for Voters Education.

The Coalition aims to provide a broad platform for the presidential candidates in the upcoming May 2022 elections to present their plans to address the health and economic crises that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic.

"On 9 May 2022, over 65 million voters will decide who shall lead the country out of the COVID-19 pandemic-induced crisis and into sustained growth. It is therefore crucial that this choice be an informed one -- that is be based on issues, platforms, and programs, rather than just on personalities and narrow interests," the Coalition said in a statement.

"The need for voters to be informed, educated, and enlightened is more critical than ever," the Coalition said in a statement," it underscored.

A series of forums will be held "to identify and thresh out the issues that affect the Filipino people" and to "elicit from the presidential candidates their positions on these issues and how they plan to address them."

Members of the Coalition include Assumption College, Ateneo de Manila University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, De La Salle University, Far Easter University, Finex Academy, Miriam College, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and St. Scholastica's College.
