Time to brush up on your Swiftie knowledge as NYU launches a Taylor Swift course

Time to hit the play button on your Taylor Swift playlist, re-watch “Miss Americana,” and learn again her creative process as New York University introduces a new course—and it’s all about the pop-country music artist’s body of work.

Through NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, the said course dabbles on Taylor’s “evolution as a creative music entrepreneur, the legacy of pop and country songwriters, discourses of youth and girlhood, and the politics of race in contemporary popular music,” per Variety. Leading the course is Brittany Spanos, a Rolling Stone magazine journalist and alumna of the university.

“I've been covering Taylor Swift since I began my writing career a decade ago and have been a super fan of hers for even longer. It's such an honor to be able to share my Swiftie expertise with a sharp group of students,” Brittany said to Variety. “I hope to help them rethink how to engage with one of the things world’s biggest and sometimes divisive stars, in the same way, Clive professors like Jason King, Vivien Goldman, and Joe Levy did for me when I took their courses.”

Apart from discussing the 32-year-old singer’s contributions to the modern music scene, and her growth as an artist and a celebrity, the course will also tackle lessons about copyright and ownership of creative works and the exploitation of youth and girlhood in the media and music landscape.

According to a report mentioned by People, Taylor’s participation in the course is pending.

This is not the first time the institute created a course surrounding a music artist’s work. In the past, it has offered courses spotlighting English singer and musician Paul McCartney and Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell.

The Taylor Swift course started last Jan. 26 and is expected to run until March 9.
