PH Red Cross blood program served 13,000 patients in January

A total of 13,100 patients in January benefited from Philippine Red Cross' (PRC) continuous blood program, the organization said on Thursday, Feb. 3.

PRC said in a statement that in the month of January, it served 13,100 patients, dispensing 20,980 units of blood.

With the constant need for a regular supply of blood, PRC mentioned that it continues to be at the forefront in helping save lives with blood services in the midst of the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and the devastation caused by Typhoon Odette.

It added that through the leadership of PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon, the PRC Blood Program continues to provide 50 percent of the country's blood supply through its 99 Blood Facilities nationwide.

PRC explained that there are two sides to blood services which is the dispensing of blood and blood products and the blood donation aspect to ensure a constant supply.

"As the need for blood never stops, we will continue to advocate the importance of blood donation in saving the lives of millions of Filipinos," said Gordon.

Gordon also appealed to the public to keep in touch with the 104 Red Cross Chapters or call the PRC Hotline 143 for urgent blood concerns.

"No matter who you are, you can play a role in helping save lives by giving the valuable gift of blood. By regularly donating, blood stock will be sufficient before an emergency arises," added Gordon.
