Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, General Dionardo Carlos lauded on Friday, Feb. 4, the NCRPO leadership under the command of Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. for the successful conduct of "Letter of Instruction (LOI) Bawi Operations."

Carlos explained that the series of LOI Bawi Operations were implemented in accordance to the National Police Commission (Napolcom) Memorandum Circular 94-015 which seeks to ensure that all government issued weapons are properly accounted and recovered under the principle of "Property Accountability/Responsibility of PNP Supply Accountable Officer (SAO) and Personnel."

"Lagi nating pinapaalalahanan ang ating mga kasamahan sa serbisyo na maging responsable sa kanilang mga dalang armas, iwasang ito ay mawala at mapasakamay ng ibang tao para gamitin sa paggawa ng krimen at pang-aabuso (We always remind our fellow servicemen to be responsible gun owners, avoid losing their service firearms which may end up in the possession of others and used in criminal activities and abuse)," Carlos said.

"Gayundin ang ating paulit-ulit na panawagan sa mga iilan nating pasaway na mga pulis na ngayon ay suspendido o wala na sa serbisyo, na isurender na nila ang kanilang mga baril sapagkat ito ay labag sa batas at posibleng ikapahamak nila o ng kanilang mahal sa buhay (We also call on rogue cops who have already been suspended or removed from service to surrender their guns because this is a violation of the law and it could harm them or loved ones)," he added.

According to NCRPO chief Danao, the latest LOI Bawi Operation was conducted last Tuesday, Feb. 1, where they were able to issue 10 Letters of Instruction for the seizure of 11 government-issued firearms from different erring PNP personnel.

Recovered by the NCRPO were the following:

- Two 9mm caliber pistols without magazine (Rock Island; Beretta respectively bearing serial numbers RIA1993469 & G44502Z) and a bulletproof vest;

- Glock 9mm caliber pistol bearing serial number PNP10921 without magazine;

- Beretta 9mm caliber pistol bearing serial number P86275Z without magazine;

- Beretta 9mm caliber pistol bearing serial number M03765Z without magazine;

- Beretta 9mm caliber pistol bearing serial number N51211Z without magazine;

- Beretta 9mm caliber pistol bearing serial number M02189Z without magazine;

- Canik 9mm caliber pistol bearing serial number 19BG-05891 without magazine;

- Glock 9mm caliber pistol bearing serial number PNP07080 with three magazines;

- Glock 9mm caliber pistol bearing serial number PNP05051 without magazine; and

- Beretta 9mm caliber pistol bearing serial number M06988Z with one magazine.

Carlos said that PNP will continue to intensify its measure to confiscate and recover the missing government-issued firearms from policemen who failed to surrender their guns after their suspension and dismissal from service due to administrative and criminal cases.

From Feb. 17, 2021 to Feb. 1, 2022, a total of 363 firearms have already been recovered by the NCRPO under LOI Bawi Operations. The guns were turned-over to the Office of the Regional Supply Accountable Officer-NCRPO for proper disposition.
