A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new five-storey multipurpose building in the City of Malabon University (CMU) was held on Wednesday morning, Feb. 2.
Malabon City Mayor Antolin “Lenlen” Oreta III and CMU President Melissa Grace Sison-Oreta spearheaded the groundbreaking rites.
The event was attended by Malabon City Congresswoman Jaye Lacson-Noel, Malabon City Vice Mayor Bernard “Ninong” Dela Cruz, Councilor Jose Lorenzo “Enzo” Oreta, and officials of the city hall and the CMU.
According to the CMU, the new building will feature 10 more classrooms for business administration students.
Phase I of the construction is projected to begin this year, and Phase II will commence in 2023. Phase II will include the installation of elevators in the building.
Oreta said the new buildings will be able to entice and encourage students to continue their studies, in preparation for the resumption of face-to-face classes.
On Monday, Jan. 24, Malabon City inaugurated the new CMU innovation building that features 14 additional classrooms, a gym, an education technology room, a control records room, a server room, and a room for the Acer Academy program.
Oreta said the construction of the new CMU building is part of the city government’s continued efforts to elevate the quality of education and improve services in schools within the city.
The CMU houses more than 4,000 students, among them, scholars of the “Academic and Athletic Scholarship Program” beingoffered by the city government.
The CMU offers courses and programs accredited by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Association of Local Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (ALCUCOA).
The university received its International Standards Organization (ISO) certification on Dec. 28, 2021 for its quality management system. (Khriscielle Yalao)
