PH Red Cross completes 14,000 hemodialysis treatments

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) said on Thursday, Feb. 3 that its Hemodialysis Center has completed a total of 14,006 hemodialysis treatments.

This is as of Feb. 1, since welcoming its first patients back in February 2019, according to PRC "We established a hemodialysis center to strengthen our humanitarian efforts and the Red Cross commitment to uplift human dignity," PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sen. Richard Gordon said.

PRC mentioned that despite the shortage of qualified personnel due to the ongoing pandemic, the PRC Hemodialysis Center has remained in operation while treating over 71 patients.

It also had provided 7,183 treatments throughout 2020 alone, and then another 3,942 treatments during 2021.

Currently, the PRC Hemodialysis Center is treating 22 patients and is actively looking for more since the facility can accommodate up to 90 patients, depending on whether an individual is on a twice or thrice a week hemodialysis program.

"With its 15 state-of-the-art dialysis machines donated by Dr. Takao Suzuki, chairperson of Tokushukai General Inc. Association, and hemodialysis treatments funded by the Bloomberry Foundation, the PRC is offering the Hemodialysis Samaritan Program to patients needing hemodialysis treatment," PRC said.

"This is just an additional approach by the PRC in their many humanitarian endeavors for the benefit of the public," it added.
