Biñan LGU relaunches local radio station to revive sense of community
BIÑAN CITY, Laguna – The city government has relaunched its local radio station, 87.9 Radyo Biñan, on Wednesday (Feb. 2), as part of its activities in celebration of Araw ng Biñan 2022.
According to Radyo Biñan Station Manager Bryan Jason Borja, the relaunch aims to foster a sense of community while continuing to strengthen the local government unit’s (LGU) information dissemination capabilities amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“This is something fresh... Naglalagay kami ng mga programa na hindi kulong sa gobyerno (We are including programs that are not restricted to government services). This time, we’re trying to infuse lifestyle programs, variety shows, singing contests on-air,” Borja told the Manila Bulletin.

“’Nung hindi pa uso ‘yung cellphone, ‘pag gabi, tatawag ka sa radio station, magha-hi ka (Back when cellphones were not yet trendy, at night, people would call the radio station to say hi). So we’re trying to revive that feeling, that sense of community, that sense of oneness. Even though we don’t see each other personally, we’re one.”
Radyo Biñan currently airs information, entertainment, and educational programs, including Radio-Based Instruction for Elementary School and ALS (Alternative Learning System) Eskwela sa Radyo, which feature content from the Department of Education Biñan for students learning at home.
The station also prioritizes airing music and recorded performances by Biñanense artists.

The LGU previously utilized Radyo Biñan as an announcement tool during the distribution of enhanced community quarantine financial aid in April 2021.
It has also been an important disaster warning instrument for residents of the city situated along the Laguna de Bay coastal area.
