BIÑAN CITY, Laguna – The city government here recognized on Thursday (Feb. 3) 12 outstanding alumni under its Iskolar ng Biñan (INB) Program who excelled in their own fields of expertise.
The awarding program was part of Biñan's 12th cityhood anniversary celebration.
The awardees included Mark Robert R. Almadin and Louisa G. Erispe from Colegio San Agustin - Biñan, Stephanie Anne T. Eustaquio and J Robert Sons S. Ortiz from La Consolacion College, Noel Velasco from Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Roselyn M. Torres and Ronald B. Cammayo from Saint Michael’s College of Laguna, Rod Phillip M. Coro from Trimex Colleges, Rushel F. Nava and Manuel H. Mosne Jr. from UPH-DJGT Medical University, and Atty. Rana Alyssa M. Palabay and Steve Albert M. Simbrano from University of Perpetual Help System of Laguna.
In her speech, Deputy Speaker and Biñan City Lone District Representative Len Alonte said that Biñan strives to focus on providing quality education with its history as the place where Jose Rizal received his first formal education.
During the program, the local government unit (LGU) also launched its new scholarship program called Artista at Atletang Biñanense College (ABC) Scholarship Program.
The program offers college scholarships to qualified students and active members of Biñan City Centre for Performing Arts and Biñan Sports Volunteers.
"Iba ang potensyal ng isang bayan kapag nag-iinvest ito sa talento ng kanyang mga atleta at artists, kasi ang tina-target mo, soul, at lahat ‘yan embedded sa culture (There is a unique potential for cities that invest in talents of athletes and artists, because you're targeting the soul and that's embedded in the culture)," Biñan City Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Office (BCHATO) head Bryan Jason Borja told the Manila Bulletin.
"And their return service to the city is to serve using their talent. Mag-train ka ng ibang athlete, mag-train ka ng ibang artist (they can train other athletes, train other artists), to produce more athletes and artists."
The program will provide P20,000 per semester to scholars in any college or university within the city.
