ZAMBOANGA CITY— Combined military and police troops foiled a possible bombing attack after defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and recovering bomb materials in Patikul municipality, Sulu Province on Sunday, Feb. 27.
A military report said teams under the Joint Task Force Sulu (JTF-Sulu) swooped down on Daan Putih, Barangay Anuling after residents reported explosive materials in the area.

The troops cordoned off the area and recovered blasting caps, a detonating cord, a gallon of ANFO, 12 volts motorcycle battery, 128 pieces of nails and steel bars were recovered.
“After cordoning off the area and confirming the presence of the IED, it was then subsequently diffused and successfully recovered,” said a statement from the 11th Infantry Division.
The materials were turned over to the Philippine National Police Provincial Explosive Canine Unit in Sulu for investigation and disposition.
“We’ve been tightening our efforts in suppressing this terrorist group. The JTF-Sulu will continue to put an end to terrorism here in the soonest time possible. We will continue to coordinate with the police and other local government agencies,” said newly -installed JTF Sulu Commander Brig. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio.
Patrimonio is referring to bombing attacks perpetrated by the Abu Sayyaf in Sulu Province.
On Aug. 24 last year, 14 soldiers were killed while dozens were injured in two powerful explosions that hit Jolo town proper.
