Vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio's campaign manager has described her "Mahalin Natin ang Pilipinas Ride" or MNPR as an "enormous success".

"This has been an enormously successful journey, for which I thank all my incumbent and former colleagues in the House, the local officials, our supporters, and the people from all walks of life who welcomed and received us. We extend to you our heartfelt gratitude,” House Majority Leader and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez, one of the two campaign managers of Duterte-Carpio, said in a statement Monday, Feb. 28.

A branchild of the presidential daughter's, the 28-day south-north journey was launched in Davao City on Feb. 1--a full week before the start of the campaign period for candidates of national positions.

Duterte-Carpio is the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) chairperson, while Romuladez is the party president.

The House leader accompanied Duterte-Carpio through the majority of her MNPR caravan, which made stops in key provinces in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in terms of voter population. After a month, the lady mayor's team has returned to their starting point.

According to Romualdez, the MNPR successfully solidified support from local officials from different political parties and the grassroots organizations from across the country for the "UniTeam" tandem of Duterte-Carpio and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) presidential bet, former senator Bongbong Marcos.

There were times that the BBM-Sara UniTeam went to "enemy territory" like opposition bailiwick Iloilo, but they still managed to attract an impressive crowd and gather local officials' commitment of support during their sorties.

Up north in the Ilocos region--the Marcoses' stronghold for decades--the duo consolidated the backing of local officials even as it continued to lead the pack in all pre-election surveys.

“Judging from the warm reception and the endorsements we received, 'Solid North' is indeed solid behind our UniTeam candidates,” Romualdez said last week.

“Combined that with the wide support Mayor Sara and BBM enjoy in Mindanao, where their survey scores are above 80 percent, and in Visayas, we see signs of a potential landslide victory for our candidates,” he reckoned.

“Thus, it’s not surprising that many local officials from other regions are now joining the BBM-Sara bandwagon,” added the Leyte lawmaker.

Duterte-Carpio will hold a press conference about the MNPR in Davao City at 5 p.m. today.
