As Metro Manila shifts to Alert Level 1 or the "New Normal" due to the declining number of active COVID-19 cases starting March 1, the Makati City government announced that it is now closing vaccination sites in schools and transferring them to barangay health centers.
Makati City Mayor Abby Binay said on Monday, Feb. 28, that the decision to close down the vaccination sites in schools was made as the city prepares for face-to-face classes during the new normal.
Binay said schools must be properly prepared and modified to adhere to the public health and safety protocols and ensure the safety of students and faculty members once face-to-face classes commence.
She also explained that due to Makati's high vaccination rate, barangay health centers may now accommodate individuals who want to get inoculated and boosted against COVID-19. It will also be far easier for residents to get vaccinated near their homes.
The local government unit (LGU) also opened new vaccination sites to cater to all those who wish to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The National Capital Region shifts to Alert Level 1 on March 1 after the Metro Manila Council (MMC) agreed to downgrade NCR's alert level status due to the region's high vaccination rate and low hospital utilization rate.
