Go joins fellow senators in calling for the suspension of 'e-sabong' operations

Senator Christopher ‘’Bong’’ Go on Monday, Feb. 28 joined his colleagues in seeking the temporary suspension of the operations of online ‘e-sabong’ operations.

This developed as President Duterte approved a recommendation of senators to suspend ‘e-sabong’ operations after they conducted a public hearing on the issue last week.

Senator Ronald ‘’Bato’’ dela Rosa, chairman of the Senate Public Order and Dangerous Drugs committee, said his committee would resume public hearings on ‘e-sabong’ operations on Friday morning.

The probe was sparked by the recent disappearance of 31 persons, mostly cockfighters (sabungeros) in Manila and nearby provinces.

‘’Bilang Senador, umaapela ako sa lahat na makiisa sa imbestigasyon (As a senator, i join the investigation). Maraming buhay ang apektado (Many lives are affected). Dapat lumabas ang mga nawawalang tao at lumabas ang katotohanan (It is in this hearing that the truth will come out on the missing persons),’’ Go said.

‘’I reiterate my appeal to the PNP (Philippine National Police), NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) and other concerned agencies to act on this matter and resolve these cases immediately,’’ he stressed.

`’’I also urge PAGCOR (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation) and other government regulatory bodies to review their policies and ensure full compliance with security, surveillance and records requirements to prevent these kinds of incidents.],’’ he added.

‘’Panagutin ang dapat managot at alamin kung sino ang nagpabaya (Those behind this should be made to answer). Hindi dapat hinayaang umabot pa sa ganitong sitwasyon na may mga taong nawawala at buhay na ang nakataya! (The disappearance of persons should not be allowed to continue),’’ he added.

There are calls for the suspension of e-sabong operations because there are reports of many cockfighters, having lost so much and are now hocked in debts, have gone into crime.

Some policemen have also committed crimes because of losses in ‘e-sabong’.
