Continue the discipline under Alert Level 1, Mayor Olivarez urges people

Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez urged city residents to continue the discipline even as the National Capital Region (NCR) deescalates to Alert level 1 starting Tuesday, March 1.

Olivarez issued the appeal during the virtual flag raising ceremony held at the City Hall quadrangle on Monday, Feb. 28.

He said the NCR will be placed under Alert Level 1 on March 1-15 but compliance with the minimum health protocols must continue, particularly the wearing of face masks.

The City Health Office (CHO) and the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) recorded only eight new cases of COVID-19, bringing the city’s active case to 38 on Feb. 27.

Olivarez said 98 percent of the city’s 16 barangays have already recorded single digit cases.

He said that based on the guidelines on the level of vaccination, each local government unit must conduct vaccination to 70 percent of its population. The city had already vaccinated 135 percent of its targeted population.

Under the category of A2 (senior citizens) and A3 (with comorbidity), each LGU was required to vaccinate about 80 percent while the city had already vaccinated about 90 percent.

The Metro Manila Council (MMC) composed of 16 city mayors and one municipal mayor unanimously signed a resolution placing the NCR under Alert Level 1 .

Olivarez said the NCR mayors also agreed to impose the wearing of face mask which can only be removed while eating and during exercise.

He said the work place must be well ventilated and workers or employees who refuse not to receive vaccines against the COVID-19 must undergo RT-PCR tests every two weeks and yield a negative result.
