Briones asks DepEd personnel 'not to do any harm' to learners online
The Department of Education (DepEd) reminded its teaching and non-teaching personnel to ensure that they do not put learners in harm’s way, especially online.

“As a child-learning institution, DepEd personnel must ensure that in the discharge of their function, they should not do any harm or facilitate any danger to our learners even in cyberspace,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said during the webinar held on Monday, Feb. 28, in celebration of the Safer Internet Day Philippines (SIDPh) 2022.
Organized by DepEd’s Child Protection Unit (CPU), the webinar was anchored on the theme “CRC Next Level: Click, Respect, Connect, Ligtas na Ugnayan Online.”
The said webinar focused on child safeguarding in schools, promoting child online protection and digital literacy in the school environment.
“The right to be safe in the online environment is part of DepEd’s rights-based education framework under the dimension of the right to respect and integrity in the learning environment,” Briones said.
Briones said DepEd has shown its commitment to promoting a safe online space for learners via its various policy issuances, programs on cyber safety, the creation of DepEd CPU, and the various engagements with civil society groups and the private sector.
DepEd, Briones added, is one with the nation in celebration of 2022 SIDPh “as we move forward in education, as we deal with what we describe as the ‘new normal,’ as we catch up with what we purportedly lost or left behind in the progress or technology and for science, and other wonderful new ways of learning.”
