'Bakit hindi pumunta?': Ka Leody highlights importance of debates

Labor leader and presidential candidate Leodegario “Ka Leody” De Guzman says debates are very important in letting voters know about their platforms--a sentiment that was echoed by his fellow candidates who took part in the CNN Presidential Debate.

“Importante ito para malaman sana at masabi kung ano yung mga programa. Para malaman ng bansa, ng mga botante, kung ano yung plataporma (Debates are important so that voters can tell what our programs are. So the country, the voters, know what our platforms are),” De Guzman said during the televised ebate on Sunday, Feb. 27.

“Katulad sa amin, ay importanteng malaman na kami ay may plataporma ni Ka Walden Bello (For us, it's important to let voters know that me and Walden Bello have a platform),” he said, referring to his running mate.

Out of the 10 presidential candidates invited, nine were present. Only former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. did not attend the debate.

“Aba ay napaka-importante nito, dapat nandito yung isang kasama namin. Bakit hindi pumunta dito (This is very important, one of our fellow candidates was supposed to be here. Why did he not show up)?” he said, tongue-in-cheek.

The following presidential candidates: Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Panfilo Lacson; Senator Manny Pacquiao, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, Ernesto Abella, Norberto Gonzales, and Faisal Mangondato unanimously agreed on the importance of debates.

“When you don’t show up in the most difficult times, hindi ka leader (You’re not a leader),” said Robredo on the topic of debates.

“Dito masusukat nang maayos ang wisdom at grasp sa current and past issues (This is how you measure wisdom and grasp on current and past issues),” said Lacson.
