NXPE loss a timely wake-up call as Onic aims to regain M3 form

Onic Philippines revealed that the shock loss to Nexplay Evos served as an early wake-up call after it admittedly played complacent in the opening week of the MPL Philippines Season 9.

Coming off a runner-up finish in the M3 World Championship, the loss naturally came as a bitter pill to swallow for Onic which led to a four-hour meeting between the team members before the start of the Week 2 as tweeted by team captain Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy.

The players responded well and scored a dominant sweep of the lowly Bren Esports on Saturday, Feb. 26.

Speaking in the aftermath of the victory, Marky “Markyyy” Capacio shared what transpired during the meeting.

“Binabalikan lang po namin ‘yung sa season 8 tsaka yung sa M3 kasi nakampante po kami nung nakaraang week kaya binabalikan lang po namin yung mga nagawa namin dati,” revealed Markyyy.

Onic looks to regain their M3 form which dominated the top teams in the world in its scintillating upper bracket run during the playoffs.

“Binalik lang yung dating gawi, yung kung paano kami maglaro, paano kami mag usap, binalik lang naman kasi medyo nawala,” added Jaylord “Hatred” Gonzales who also dispelled any speculations of the squad having internal conflicts which led to the sudden meeting.

“Wala naman po (problem in the team) kami lang po talaga, sarili lang po talaga yung kalaban,” he stressed.

Fatigue also came into play during the Week 1 since the squad haven’t really had enough rest since the MPL Philippines Season 8. The squad competed in the M3 then immediately returned to action in the Sibol qualifiers.

“Sa nakikita ko po wala, pero yung sa week 1 namin medyo dun lumabas yung pagkapagod,” he added.

Onic though had no time to rest if it hopes to catch up with the top teams in Season 9 led by the still undefeated teams RSG Philippines and ECHO. Onic remained in the middle of the pack together with TNC Pro-Team ML with identical 2-1 records.

“Nagulat po talaga kami kasi lahat ng team malalakas po eh wala pong tapon ngayong season lahat malalakas yung kalaban namin,” stressed Markyyy.

“Kailangan po talaga namin mabalik yung lakas namin ulit para makasabay po kami sa mga malalakas ngayon,” he ended.
