‘’Treatment, prevention, prophylaxis. I think we should go there.’’

This was the ‘’science-based’’ answer that vice presidential candidate Senate President Vicente Sotto III gave during a CNN Philippines-sponsored debate among seven out of the nine vice presidential candidates.
‘’The vaccination program is good. But what do we do after six months? After six months, we'll ask Congress again for P78 billion para mabili na naman (to be able to buy again) for 100 million Filipinos, every six months,’’ he said on Saturday night, Feb. 26.
Sotto was referring to the "Bayanihan 1" and "Bayanihan 2" laws, with the former giving financial help to jobless Filipinos hit by lockdowns and the latter addressing the transportation sector's needs.
‘’So I think, we should be concentrating more on the prophylaxis (prevention or treatment if a disease),’’ he pointed out.
Sotto stressed that there are many new inventions or discoveries "in the other parts of the world kaya kailangan mas bigyan natin ng diin ang ganito (that's why we should give more focus on these),’’ he said.
The Senate chief said he asked the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to approve prophylaxes so that they could help in disease prevention ‘’but of course the health standards, the health protocols should remain".
