Robbery suspect killed in QC shootout

Police killed an armed man in an alleged shootout, hours after he and two cohorts robbed a bus driver in Quezon City on Friday, Feb. 25.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) identified the slain suspect as Francis Morales, 21, a resident of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

Police said bus driver Antonio Corpuz, 60, sought help from the QCPD Fairview Station (PS 5) after the three suspects, who acted as passengers, declared a holdup while aboard the bus along Regalado Avenue in Quezon City at around 11 a.m. on Friday. The suspects took P2,000 cash from the bus driver and fled.

The PS 5 immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation and spotted Morales walking along a sidewalk at the corner of Dodge and Fairlane Streets in Brgy. Greater Fairview at around 1:50 p.m.

The cops ordered Morales to yield after he was identified by the victim.

The suspect, however, suddenly pulled out a gun and fired shots at the police officers. The operatives fired back, killing him.

Police recovered from the scene the suspect’s pistol with one magazine, three live ammunition, two fired cartridge cases, a black sling bag with identification cards, four cellular phones, and P3,000 cash.

Probers are still establishing the identities of the two other suspects who managed to flee.
