PAGASA warns against flash floods, landslides due to easterlies, shear line

Residents of areas affected by the shear line, also called the tail-end of the frontal system, and easterlies were warned to remain vigilant against flash floods and landslides during moderate to at times heavy rain showers.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), on Saturday, Feb. 26, said that various weather systems may affect the country in the next 24 hours.

“May kaulapan pa rin d’yan as hilagang Luzon at dala pa rin ‘yan ng amihan. Ang shear line naman ay nagbibigay ng maulap na papawirin d’yan sa probinsya ng Aurora at Quezon (The northeast monsoon brings cloudy skies in northern Luzon. Meanwhile, the shear line brings cloudy skies in the provinces of Aurora and Quezon),” said PAGASA weather specialist Raymond Ordinario.

Ordinario added that the easterlies may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Mindanao.

Residents of Caraga, Davao Region, Aurora, and Quezon were warned against the possible flash floods and landslides that the easterlies and shearline may bring during moderate to at times heavy rains.

The northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and the rest of central Luzon.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience a generally fair weather condition with a slight chance of rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

There remains a slim chance of tropical cyclone development until the end of the month, Ordinario furthered.
