Health services continue as COVID-19 cases drop in Malabon City - Councilor Oreta

Malabon City mayoral candidate Councilor Jose Lorenzo "Enzo" Oreta said on Saturday, Feb. 26, that the health services for residents continue as the active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the city decrease.

"Talagang noon pa lang din ay nakatutok po tayo sa kalusugan, lalo na po ngayon na tayo ay napaloob sa pandemiya (Since then, we are focused on health, especially now that we're in a pandemic)," Oreta said in an interview with DZRH on Saturday.

"Kailangan mas tutukan natin at mas turuan po natin ang mga taumbayan na mag-ingat po, para naman po sa ganon ay wala na po sigurong masasawi sa COVID-19, at talagang para makatulong po tayo sa pagtatapos nitong pandemiya po natin (We need to focus and teach the people to be careful, so that there will be no more deaths because of COVID-19, and for us help end this pandemic)," he added.

Oreta said that the COVID-19 vaccinations, isolation, testing, and the city's "Kaasenso Health Caravan" program that provides free maintenance medicines, vitamins, and easy access to health services (e.g. mobile x-ray) continue to help the residents in the 21 barangays especially the senior citizens, children, and individuals with comorbidities.

The councilor added that the city has other health programs such as the human milk bank, establishment of Super Health Centers, free rides and food packs for frontliners, and an ordinance that raises the allowances of barangay health workers.

Aside from the programs, Oreta said the city also trains and gives financial assistance to "carinderia" owners to cook nutritious food for the children and teach parents how to prepare healthy meals.

As of Feb. 25, the city listed 27 active COVID-19 cases out of its 25,308 total confirmed cases, with 24,564 recoveries and 717 deaths.
