"If the people do not like you, do not force yourself into their lives... You create an artificial scenery there environment would not be conducive to a fair and honest election," he added.
Duterte also said that he already ordered Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana to ensure that there will be no intimidation and violence during the election season.
"I will see to it and I will guarantee to all candidates, I will be neutral, and the military and the police will see to it that, as mandated by the Constitution, I will produce a clean and honest election," he noted.
"Hindi ako nananakot kasi (I am not threatening you because) I have a sacred oath to follow. And that sacred oath is not only for friends or enemies but for all Filipinos," Duterte added.
In the same interview, Duterte reiterated that he wants to stay neutral and he will only endorse a candidate if there is a compelling reason.
“I may or I may not but preferably I’d like to stay neutral,” he said.
