5.3-magnitude quake hits Davao Occidental – Phivolcs


A strong earthquake with a magnitude measuring 5.3 hit waters off Davao Occidental around 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The epicenter of the quake was traced 84 kilometers (km) southeast of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental and it was tectonic in origin.

The quake was weak at Intensity III in General Santos City and Kiamba, Sarangani while it was scarcely perceptible in Davao City.

Instrumental Intensity II was likewise recorded in General Santos City and Kidapawan City, while Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in Davao City.

Phivolcs warned the public to remain vigilant against aftershocks due to this quake.
