Various weather systems may bring isolated rain showers in the country over the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said on Friday, Feb. 25.

PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja, in a public weather forecast, said that the trough of low pressure area (LPA), shear line, also called the tail-end of frontal system, and northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in various parts of the country.

“Sa may eastern section of northern Luzon ay mayroon tayong shear line. Dito sa natitirang bahagi ng northern Luzon ay nandoon pa rin ‘yung amihan natin. Sa Mindanao naman ay apektado tayo ng trough ng LPA na nasa labas ng Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) (Shear line prevails over the eastern section of northern Luzon and the northeast monsoon affects the rest of northern Luzon. Meanwhile, the trough of LPA spotted outside PAR affects Mindanao),” said Estareja.

According to Estareja, the LPA was spotted 880 kilometers (km) east southeast of Mindanao and it is less likely to further develop into a tropical cyclone.

Meanwhile, residents of Mindanao, Cagayan Valley, and Aurora were warned to remain vigilant against the possible impacts of the trough of LPA and shear line during moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers in the next 24 hours due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA said that no weather disturbance is expected to neither develop nor enter PAR until the end of February 2022.
