Mazda unveils the 2022 MX-5

Special MCP 25th Anniversary Edition available

With many of the new cars unveiled today geared towards family, Mazda Philippines’ introduction of the 2022 Mazda MX-5 was a refreshing change. Unwrapped during a virtual launch, Mazda made its accessible sports car even better with the introduction of new colors, trim changes and most importantly, a handling upgrade engineered to improve the driving experience.

Distinct choices

Like before, the MX-5 comes in a soft top, retractable fastback (RF) variant, or Club Edition. The soft top variant now comes with a choice of either black or dark cherry. If you prefer the RF (Retractable Fastback), you have the choice of color-keyed roof for the A/T or simply a black roof for the M/T. A classy new color is also introduced for the 2022 MX-5, Platinum Quartz Metallic, which replaces Arctic White.

Luxury

Giving the interior a more luxurious, warmer feel is a choice between black leather or the new Terracotta Nappa leather seats. Add to this soft touch interior surfaces, intricate stitching in the seats, door panels, steering wheel, hand brake and gear lever, which all meld to elevate the premium experience.

Club Edition

The 2022 MX-5 Club Edition will now be available in soft top form. Exclusively equipped on this exclusive variant are the signature Recaro sport seats, and lightweight 17-inch dark finish BBS forged wheels. The manual transmission soft top and RF get Bilstein Sports Dampers.

Enhanced Jinba Ittai

Across the rance, the MX-5’s handling gets a tweak with a new feature called Kinematic Posture Control (KPC). It works with the rear suspension by applying the brake to the inner rear wheel under high G cornering. This mitigates the lift of the body and inner rear wheel, reducing body roll. Keeping the profile closer to flat, KPC “stabilizes the posture of both driver and passenger”, at the same time increases grip on the road. It works in real time, seamlessly applying the right amount of braking appropriate to maintain “posture stabilization”, even at high speeds. This allows you to further enjoy your drive whether on winding open roads or at a track day.

Powerplant and safety amenities

The 2022 MX-5 is still powered by the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine, which puts out 184-Ps of power and 205-Nm of torque. The top variants are equipped with i-Activsense Safety Technologies like Adaptive LED Headlamps, Smart City Brake Support, and Lane Departure Warning, while dual front and side airbags are standard for all variants.

MCP 25th Anniversary

And to celebrate the Miata Club Philippines (MCP) 25th Anniversary, Mazda is also offering an exclusive MCP 25th Anniversary Edition in the new Platinum Quartz color with the Blue Soft Top, Hyper Silver Wheels and a red racing stripe, available in a manual at P2,250,000 and automatic at P2,300,000. MCP members can reserve until Feb 28, and the public can reserve after that. Deliveries of this limited time production vehicle will start September 2022 and ends on September 2023.
