1,671 new COVID-19 cases recorded —DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded 1,671 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday, Feb.25, bringing the total number of active cases to 55,140.

This is slightly lower compared to the recorded number of COVID-19 cases last Thursday, Feb. 24, which is at 1,745 cases.

It is worth noting that this is the seventh consecutive day that the number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases is below 2,000.

“Of the 1,671 reported cases today, 1,200 (72 percent) occurred within the recent 14 days (Feb. 12 to Feb. 25, 2022),” the agency noted.

According to the DOH, the top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 253 cases or 21 percent, Region 4-A with 171 cases or 14percent, and Region 3 with 120 cases or 10 percent.

“Of the 59 deaths, 30 occurred in February 2022 (51 percent), 11 in January 2022 (19 percent), 2 in December 2021 (3 percent), 2 in November 2021 (3percent), 5 in October 2021 (8 percent), 5 in September 2021 (8 percent), 2 in August 2021 (3 percent), and 2 in July 2021 (3 percent) due to late encoding of death information to COVID,” it added.

On the other hand, the agency said 121 duplicates, 115 of which are recoveries, were removed from the total case count.

In addition, the DOH said the 41 cases that were previously reported as recoveries were “reclassified as deaths after final validation.”

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on Feb. 23, 2022, but three laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

“Based on data in the last 14 days, the three labs contribute, on average, 0.7 percent of samples tested and 1.1 percent of positive individuals,” the agency noted.
