Shear line, 'amihan' prevail in most parts of PH – PAGASA
Two weather systems namely shear line, also known as the tail-end of frontal system, and northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in most parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, Feb. 24.

“Ang nakakaapekto sa bansa ay northeast monsoon kung saan naaapektuhan ang northern and central Luzon. Samantalang ang shear line ay naapektuhan ang silangang bahagi ng southern Luzon at Visayas. Dahil dito, asahan natin ang maulap na kalangitan na may pag-ulan sa malaking bahagi ng Visayas at Luzon (The northeast monsoon affects northern and central Luzon. Meanwhile, the shear line affects the eastern section of southern Luzon and Visayas. Because of this, we may experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers in most parts of Visayas and Luzon),” said PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio in a public weather forecast.
The State weather bureau advised residents of Bicol Region, eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region to remain vigilant against the possible flash floods and landslides that the shear line may bring.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon is expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers in Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Aurora, Ilocos Region, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Central Luzon.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
According to Aurelio, no weather disturbance is expected to develop or enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within the forecast period.
