The San Juan City local government announced on Thursday, Feb. 24, that its active COVID-19 cases have dropped to less than 20.
According to the local government unit (LGU), the San Juan City Health Office has recorded 15 active cases as of Feb. 23, a sharp decline from the 1,947 cases it tallied during the peak of the surge on Jan. 12. It also recorded 20,619 recoveries and 359 deaths.
The health office noted that there are no new casualties recorded on Feb. 23.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora urged the public to trust the vaccines and get inoculated and boosted against COVID-19.
Zamora said on Tuesday, Feb. 22, that he supports downgrading the alert level status of Metro Manila to Level 1 starting March 1 amid the declining number of COVID-19 cases being tallied in the metropolis.
"Our quarantine facilities are only 3.7 percent occupied, while our San Juan Medical Center's (SJMC) COVID-19 beds are at 16 percent. We have already vaccinated 259 percent of our target population," he added.
The mayor also explained that the regional positivity rate of Metro Manila is down to 5.9 percent and San Juan is one of the 15 cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) that are currently classified as low risk.
