Marikina City approves extension of business tax amnesty

The Marikina City local government passed on Wednesday, Feb. 23, a city ordinance extending tax amnesty to businesses from Feb. 23 to June 30, 2022.

Ordinance No. 006, Series of 2022, introduced by Councilors Romina Kate De Guzman and Cloyd Casimiro, grants an extended period for business owners to pay their business taxes without any penalties, interests, or surcharges.

Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro approved and signed the ordinance on Wednesday, Feb. 23, along with Vice Mayor Marian Andres, M.D.

The extension was passed to support the business sector in the city and alleviate the financial strains, particularly of small and medium businesses and enterprises that have been affected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Local Government Code of 1991, or Republic Act (RA) No. 7160 enables the approval of tax exemptions, incentives or relief under necessary conditions deemed by the city administration.

A similar ordinance was passed -- Ordinance No. 089, Series of 2021, that extended business tax payments from Oct. 13 to Dec. 31, 2021.
