Duterte backs Legarda's Senate bid

President Duterte has endorsed the senatorial bid of Deputy Speaker and Antique Representative Loren Legarda under the UniTeam Alliance.

Duterte said that even before she entered politics, Legarda had shown great involvement in public service.

“When she became senator, she was able to help many more Filipinos through her advocacies. Now that she’s running for senator again, I hope you will consider her in your list. I believe Loren deserves to be back in the Senate,” the President said.

In response, Legarda expressed gratitude to the President for his kind words, trust and generous support.

“Daghang salamat President Rodrigo Roa Duterte sa inyong tiwala at pagpapahalaga sa aking serbisyo publiko. (Thank you very much President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for your trust and for recognizing my years of public service),” she said.

“I wish you continued good health and success,” she added.

Legarda, who is seeking a Senate comeback in the May 2022 elections, has been pushing her platforms that includes her long-time advocacies on environmental protection and climate change adaption; employment and livelihood creation; health; education; and many others.

A champion of the environment, the former senator vowed to push legislative measures that would strengthen the nation’s disaster and calamity preparedness to prevent the extent of damages seen during Typhoons Ondoy, Yolanda and Odette.
