Cagayan tourism gets a boost as DPWH-2 jumpstarts P80-M boulevard projects

CAGAYAN -- More tourism activities are expected in Ballesteros and Abulug towns in Cagayan Valley as the Department of Public Works and Highways – Cagayan Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-CSDEO) has started the construction of two boulevard projects.

District Engineer Oscar G. Gumiran reported to Regional Director Loreta M. Malaluan that the construction involves more than 580-linear meters of road, including a seawall, which will be constructed along the Ballesteros shoreline, while 1,175-linear meter will be constructed in Abulug.

“Tourism plays an important role in the town’s economy and the DPWH t is persistent in undertaking various infrastructure development projects that will provide a better travel experience to tourism sites in the province,” Gumiran added.

It is believed that once the projects are completed, the scenic coastal road will largely benefit local businesses. Tourists will also be provided with a new venue for leisure activities.

The projects are implemented through the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program (TRIP) with a total allocation of P80-million under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

The boulevard projects are expected to be completed by June to July 2022.
