Two resign, five re-appointed as BARMM starts revamp of ministers

ZAMBOANGA CITY- Two ministers have resigned while five others have been re-appointed as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) started its reorganization of Cabinet ministers.

“Ongoing ang aming assessment and evaluation, at the same time hiring and re-hiring of ministers,” said BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ibrahim in the Laging Handa Public Briefing on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

BARMM ministers initially tendered their resignation based on Memorandum Circular 0024 which ordered the courtesy resignation of ministers and deputy ministers before February 15, 2022 to give way to reorganization.

“We are ending our three-year term. Gusto namin mabigyan ng very accurate assessment ang performances ng ministries so we opted na mag issue kami ng memorandum,” (We want to give a very accurate assessment on the performance of ministries so we opted to issue a memorandum) Ibrahim explained.

Ibrahim refused to divulge the names of ministers whose resignation he has accepted and those who have been re-appointed, saying their names will be announced within a week’s time.

Meanwhile, a list of BARMM parliament members was submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte for re-appointment.

Ibrahim said the term given to parliament members is ending in the year 2022, and thus members must be re-appointed by the President for a fresh term.

“Yung 80 members ay kailangan ma-re-appoint or magkaroon ng new appointments sa 80-member parliament,” (The 80 members must be re-appointed or new members must be appointed in the 80-member parliament) Ibrahim said.

He did not say if there have been new appointments within the BARMM parliament.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11593 last October, the law which extended the term of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority and moved its elections from May 2022 to May 2025.
