Shear line, 'amihan' to continue to bring rains over parts of Luzon, Visayas

The shear line and northeast monsoon are expected to continue to bring some rains over several parts of Luzon and Visayas in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line may affect Eastern Visayas, Bicol Region, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Aklan, Capiz, Quezon, and Aurora.

The northeast monsoon or "amihan" may also bring cloudy skies with rains over Cagayan Valley.

Moreover, the trough or extension of a low pressure area that is outside the country's area of responsibility may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Caraga and Davao Region.

PAGASA advised the public, particularly those in areas affected by the shear line, amihan, and trough of LPA, to continue to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to the occurrence of moderate to at times heavy rains.

The amihan may also affect Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains may prevail over these areas.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the shear line and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.
